Worst Oscar Snub Submission: Glenn Close Not Winning Best Actress for Fatal Attraction in 1987
Comments: Fatal Attraction is one of my all time favorite films; Glenn Close is one of my all time favorite actresses; but Cher in Moonstruck was phenomenal.
Comments: Although I haven't watched 'Fatal Attraction' and 'Moonstruck' before, but I know Close is a great actress.
Comments: While I agree that Glenn Close's performance in Fatal Attraction was miles above Cher's in Moonstruck, the best performances that year came from Holly Hunter (Broadcast News), Meryl Streep (Ironweed), Greta Scacchi (A Man in Love) and Angelica Huston (The Dead.

There were also jokes about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Pete Rose, Michael Eisner and Miramax's Weinstein brothers.
Aside from best picture and director, the awards "Return of the King" won were: adapted screenplay (Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens), song ("Into the West"), score (Howard Shore), visual effects, art direction, costume design, makeup, sound mixing and film editing.

Imagine a film where an actresses continually wanted to show the left side of her face to camera which was only one example of ways in which she was fixed in the manner of her work.
She won it as Bette Davis had before and was another blow for the studio system.

Best actress: Why doesn't Hollywood care? - More Oscar news - MSNBC.com
Because the next time a best actress appeared in a best picture wasn’t until 1977: Diane Keaton for “Annie Hall.” During that same period, 15 best actors starred in best pictures, and to this day, best pictures tend to be testosterone-filled enterprises: “Braveheart” and “Gladiator” and the like.
In the last five years, the best actress appeared in a best picture nominee only twice (Kidman’s “The Hours” and Roberts’ “Erin Brockovich”), while four of the five best actors came from best picture nominees (Spacey’s “American Beauty”; Crowe’s “Gladiator”; Brody’s “The Pianist” and Penn’s “Mystic River”).
By which I don’t mean the actresses so much as the five moviegoers who managed to see all their performances.

But at the audition I remember going out on stage - the play was called Fair Game, and I was playing a model - and the audition scene was her first day in New York, having come from the midwest, to become a model.

Best supporting actress showdown - More Oscar news - MSNBC.com
The Academy loves to spread the wealth around to a bunch of movies, which meant that every category that “The Return of the King” wasn’t nominated in would probably go to a different film, which ended up being the case, by and large.
Academy voters can feel smart and in-crowd about liking “Sideways,” and they might also feel a little guilty about dissing Paul Giamatti on the best actor tip (not that he would have won, but still), so I think they’ll give “Sideways” as many trophies as they can.
With that said, I’m actually going to use the same reasoning for my pick this year.
